My trip to Monterey included a visit to this beautiful area, described in the tourist guide as "the crown jewel of California's state park system...attracts over 300,000 visitors a year." But in early June of 2007 it wasn't crowded and was well worth the short drive from Monterey.
...is a real fancy one for a serious camera with some heavy glass on the front end. And why, you ask, am I writing about tripods at this late hour? Because I just noticed that this video that I thought had crashed while uploading actually did load OK. Not that the video is OK, but hey this is a shot on a STILL camera after all and just a bipod--my two feet. The jerky pan deserves a pan, but the bikers ending the shot was a happy moment.
The block U doesn't usually look this rural, but for me the angle is unusual. It's from the Salt Lake City Cemetary's rock wall on 11th Avenue, just above the Veteran's graves.
It's probably been there as long as we've owned the house, that slight indentation in the driveway. I think I first noticed it when I used to hose out the garage. Don't do that very often these days. Maybe once or twice a year, if that. It took me a long time to see the photographic possibilities. What used to bug me is now a friend that I look for when the snow melts or after the rain.
...these two guys started screaming and crying and bellyaching like they'd been outsted from a warm cave and transported to a bright, cold and noisey planet. Somehow in five decades and three years, they managed to fight and flee and eventually fly. The learned to feed and read and, yes, even breed. No they're not fraternal twins, but they do share the same eviction day and a passion for images that move and stories that get to the gut. These guys look like they could be my uncle or grandpa, but behind those glasses and beneath those cleverly designed costumes, they're still a just couple of kids. Don't let their birthday fool you.
You work up to running a marathon, right? You run a 5K, maybe a 10K, then a half marathon, right? Well, I started in the middle with a half marathon, the Canyonlands Half in Moab in March. Then in April I tried the Salt Lake City 5K. And the marathon? I'm still thinking about that one. But it does seem more possible now than it once did.
Seems like the Half Marathon in Moab--my first--was more like a few weeks ago, not way back in March. If you're considering running a half, I'd say go for it. Especially if you're used to running five or six miles at a time. If not and you've got a few months to prepare, I'd still say go for it. Yes, I certainly could have trained longer and more effectively, but I finished and it turned out to be a good experience with great people in a beautiful place.
